US Senator Lindsey Graham called on Russians to assassinate President Vladimir Putin on Thursday night.
“How does this end? Somebody in Russia has to step up to the plate and take this guy out.” He said on Fox News TV.
Graham’s extraordinary call for the assassination of a head of state came as Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Europe to take “immediate action” after Russian troops shelled the continent’s largest nuclear power plant Friday morning.
The senator who served in Congress for over twenty years has been a close ally to former President Donald Trump. Graham earlier on introduced a resolution condemning the Russian president and his military for committing “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity.”
A day earlier, Graham had reportedly said it was a mistake for his political ally former President Donald Trump to call Putin a “genius” for the unprovoked war.
Ukraine says at least 350 civilians have been killed since Putin launched the invasion a week ago, and over 1 million have fled the country.
