The government of Uganda through its digital communications regulatory body dubbed Uganda Communications Commission says it is scouting and monitoring social media platforms to fish out for elements that have made it a hobby to jubilate and negatively comment on the deceased ex-security Minister Gen. Elly Tumwiine.

The revelation was made by the Minister for ICT and National guidance Dr Chris Baryomunsi who says the government has received complaints from the family and relatives of the fallen general, who are discomforted by the abusive social media users who are spreading mockery statements disparaging the deceased.
“It does not reflect the norms and culture of Ugandans. We will take action on all those celebrating the death of Gen. Tumwiine. His family and relatives are very concerned with the hateful comments flooding social media,” Baryomunsi says. He adds that the body of the fallen general will be airlifted to his ancestral home in Kazo district where he will be laid to rest on Tuesday next week.
Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, the internal affairs minister commented on the celebrations, saying it is an insensitive act to jubilate when a person dies.
“For us in the army, when you kill your enemy. You are even supposed to salute him. The hatred naturally dies away once the person has died. You cannot hate a dead person. It’s utterly insensitive,” he reacted furiously.
