The FUFA Referees’ Disciplinary Panel has sanctioned two assistant referees Mbabali Samuel and Hakim Mulindwa from officiating in the Star-Times Uganda Premier League and National Competitions until 18.3.2022. The suspension comes into effect from 22nd February 2022.
The FUFA Referees’ Disciplinary Panel reviewed the videos and match reports of separate Uganda Premier League (UPL) matches handled by both assistant referees.
On 11th February 2022 at Wankulukuku, Express F.C Vs Tooro United F.C, assistant referee Mulindwa admitted that his decision when he raised the flag due to positioning misled the centre referee who cancelled Express FC’s goal.
On 16th February 2022 at Barifa Stadium, Arua Hills F.C vs Police F.C, assistant referee Mbabali admitted that he made a mistake as he failed to raise the flag against a player who received the ball from an offside position before he crossed the ball to his teammate and later scored for Arua Hill SC.
The Panel provided an expert opinion that both referees were poorly positioned for incidents that were highlighted in the match reports and videos.
However, FUFA has noted that if appointed Mbabali and Hakim may officiate matches in the leagues below UPL to enable them to improve in officiating until the end of the suspension.
