Among Anita has been elected as the Speaker of the 11th parliament of Uganda. Members of Parliament convened today at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to elect the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
The house was seeking to replace the late Jacob Oulanyah, who died on Sunday 20th 2022 and his deputy Anita Annet Among, who resigned this morning.
The Bukedea Woman MP (National Resistance Movement’s flag bearer) faced off with the joint Opposition candidate, Asuman Basalirwa, the Bugiri Municipality MP.

Out of the 467 votes, Among gathered 401 votes against Basalirwa’s 66. President Museveni hands Bukedea Woman MP the instruments of power after she was declared duly elected Speaker of the 11th Parliament by Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo.
“I’ll be a Speaker for the whole of Uganda and everybody, not for the party (NRM). I pledge to support all members of Parliament in their respective constituencies for you to remain in Parliament” – said Anita Among
Some of the Teso region leaders like Hellen Adoa of Serere county congratulated Among on Facebook.
